SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Some much needed money to help fight diabetes. Today AETNA Insurance donated $25,000 to St. Joseph's/Candler's diabetes program.
The money will be used to support things like early screenings, nutrition and fitness programs, the diabetes management center and Camp Codiak, an overnight summer camp for children living with diabetes.
"As a child, I wanted to go to diabetes camp and I couldn't because mom couldn't afford it," said patient Shana Brown. "But now this helps parents with financial difficulties to send kids to diabetes management."
In Chatham County, hospitalizations for diabetes and its many complications are higher than the national average.
