RICHMOND HILL, GA (WTOC) - Voters in Richmond Hill are deciding today whether or not to allow local restaurants to sell alcohol on Sundays (see Richmond Hill to vote on Sunday alcohol sales).

Registered voters can cast their ballots in this special election until 7pm. Voting is taking place at the Wetlands Education Center in Richmond Hill in back of JF Gregory Park.

Local restaurant owners say it's important to support of the alcohol ordinance because they are losing business to restaurants in Savannah and Chatham County.

Opponents, like pastor Carlton Cooper at Bethel Baptist Church, said Sundays should be reserved for time with family and to worship.

Poll workers said voter turnout has been steady all day, exceeding their expectations.  So far a few hundred people have cast their ballots today.  Last week 130 people voted during early voting. The alcohol ordinance is the only thing on the ballot.

WTOC will have results tonight on THE News at 11 and here on wtoc.com.
