FORT STEWART, GA (WTOC) - It was a happy homecoming today at Fort Stewart as hundreds of troops with the Third Infantry Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team returned home.

Hundreds of families and friends have been anxiously waiting for their troops to come home for about 13 months. They crowded into the stands at Cottrell Field this afternoon to welcome home the troops.

About 240 soldiers marched through the trees today and after a brief ceremony, they were all reunited with their loved ones.

Cpl. Lamarcus Atkins had his own army to welcome him back. "I've got my mother, these are my kids right here and my sister and my mother-in-law," he said. "So everybody came out to support me. I'm glad to be here, I missed my family."

Over the last 13 months these soldiers have spent in southeast Baghdad, they detained more than 800 terror suspects, helped train soldiers with the Iraqi army and help bring down the number of attacks from 30 a week to about one or less per week.
