French Consul General Visits Savannah

Posted: Updated:

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Students at Armstrong Atlantic State University are learning a little more about the special relationship America shares with France.

This morning, the Consul General of France, Philippe Ardanaz, spoke at the Armstrong Center. A Gallup Poll last month shows America's opinion of France has doubled over the last five years. It shows 69 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of France.

The Consul General says France and the US have had their "ups and downs" in their relationship, but the two countries are the closest allies in the world, with a relationship that goes back 200 years.

"There are no other countries than France and the United States that have a completely intertwined history and completely intertwined destinies but also completely intertwined economical links and cultural links," said Ardanaz.

Armstrong Atlantic State University's French Club sponsored the Consul General's visit.
