SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Old Savannah City Mission held a special Easter Eve Dinner today near the parking lot of Maupas and Bull Street.
"We're serving smoked leg of lamb and smoked ham, to all our friends and neighbors," said Jim Lewis, Executive Director of the Mission. "Friends and neighbors is what we call homeless folks and it's a great day, a great event, delicious food and lots of volunteers."
Lewis also said that the Mission is grateful for all the support they receive from the community, especially while the economy is tough.
"We try to celebrate the high days of the Christian church, Easter's big for us, it is really the biggest day in meaning," said Lewis.
The Mission is a non-profit organization with a staff of only seven employees, however they have hundreds of volunteers throughout the community. Their goal is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, rehabilitate addicts, and restore ex-offenders.
