Firefighters respond to mysterious luggage.SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A suspicious bag caused a bit of a scare at the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport.
With all the police officers, firefighters and the bomb squad airport, you could tell there was some level of concern.
"It's kind of like wow, because usually this doesn't happen. It's a strange feeling," said traveler Sharon Hale.
Hale showed up at the airport just after 10am Sunday to catch a Delta flight. A short while later, she noticed a man with a long golf bag arrive after her, but didn't think anything about it.
"He looked like a businessperson that was here for golfing," said Hale.
Airport officials said the people loading the bags thought they saw smoke coming from the same golf bag. They called police, who called out the bomb squad and explosives experts.
Hale watched from the window as emergency crews showed up at the airport.
"They came with their silver suits and went into where the baggage area was and afterwards they had one guy take the man's bag, which I also recognized, and drove it out to a spot that was away from the aircraft and put it there," said Hale.
The bag was screened and later found to be fine. There were some nervous moments for some passengers, but they say they won't let that keep them from flying.
"You can either just stay in your house or never go anywhere," said traveler Chris Moats.
Airport officials say no flights were canceled or delayed, and no charges were filed.
