Whale 3333, courtesy NOAA/DNR.SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - One of whales spotted off of Sapelo Island earlier in the week (see: Whale Rescuers on Standby) has resurfaced long enough for aerial teams to get coordinates so biologists can boat to it and better assess his or her health.
Whale 3350, nicknamed Ruffian, is now off of Florida's Amelia Island. The Georgia DNR and NOAA Fisheries hope to get close enough to Ruffian to take some biopsies and pictures to figure out what has caused deep cuts.
Whale 3333 was not spotted, but the NOAA hopes he surfaces. They think they have a good chance of removing the rope in his mouth.
