SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A new scam is making the rounds. Here's the way it works: the scammers call you up and say for a small fee they'll file a return, claiming they can get you a rebate on your Social Security tax.
One problem, the law does not allow you to get a refund on taxes paid into Social Security. So not only are you out some cash, but you can also face a penalty for filing a false return.
If you receive such a call, contact the IRS Tax Fraud Hotline immediately at 800.829.0433. More online at www.irs.gov.
