SAVANNAH, GA--The 15-story Stubbs Tower came down around 8am this morning.

Stubb's Tower was built in 1968. The building has been vacant after the people who lived there were forced out when it flooded in 2004. The Housing Authority of Savannah had already scheduled it for demolition.

It took about 8 seconds for the building to implode, leaving an expected 25-foot-tall debris pile of 12,000 tons of concrete and metal.

But before the tower came down, there was a lot of work and preparation that needed to be done to ensure today's implosion would go off without a hitch. See Last Minute Preparations for Stubbs Tower Implosion.

Roads within a two-block radius of the former Stubbs Tower were closed for about hour prior to the implosion.

Truman Parkway was also shut down at about 7:45am and remained closed until 8:15am. Henry Street and Bee Road was closed until 9am and Anderson Street will be closed until 11am.

Homes and businesses around the building also had to be evacuated for this morning's implosion and though the tower has been part of the Savannah skyline for almost 40 years, many are happy for the park coming in its place. Neighbors Prepare for Stubb's Tower Demolition
