Cathy Cox
Mark TaylorThe polls open tomorrow at 7am for the primary elections in Georgia. One of the hottest races is the Democratic nomination for governor.
There are actually four Democrats running for that nod, but its the two frontrunners, candidates Mark Taylor and Cathy Cox, are really going after each other.
Both Taylor, currently the lieutenant governor, and Cox, Georgia's secretary of state, were in Savannah today. Both want the job badly.
"We need to make changes in this state in all kinds of areas, but need your help to do that," said Cox. "I need your vote tomorrow."
"It's the people of Savannah and the Coastal Empire in Georgia that we are fighting for, and for the last 12 years in the state senate, we've been fighting for the real people," said Taylor.
And neither was shy about attacking the other. "Voters tomorrow can elect a candidate that is focused on the future with big ideas and detailed plans, or voters tomorrow can elect a politician who seems to think he deserves to be rewarded for what he did 15 years ago," said Cox.
"We're going to bring Peachcare to Georgia, and they're going to line up just like they did in the debate last night, that it's too big of a program for Georgia, we can't do that," said Taylor.
But do the voters buy the all this political bashing? "Mark Taylor and Cathy Cox, there's a lot of negative campaigning and it turns people off politics," said Mikal Rashad of Savannah.
Stephen Bohlin says it makes him question which candidate he is going to vote for tomorrow. "I don't like that, and so I have to give those candidates lot of scrutiny before I cast my vote."
And the candidates have only a few precious hours left to persuade voters to check their names on the ballot.
The polls open tomorrow morning at 7am and close at 7pm. Stay with WTOC for all state and local returns.
