CHATHAM COUNTY, GA (WTOC) - An overnight accident knocked out power to thousands of homes on Tybee Island.
It happened around 2am Thanksgiving Day morning on Highway 80, near the Bull River Bridge. Tybee police say a woman tried to pass another vehicle going west on Highway 80 when she lost control and went into the marsh, hitting a power pole.
The woman was taken to the hospital. Police say her injuries do not appear to be severe. Georgia Power says the accident knocked out power to about 4,000 customers.
A Georgia Power representative says crews are working hard to set up a new pole and repair the lines. They hope to have the power back on by 8:30am.
