SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Thursday morning, students from Benedictine Military Academy donated thousands of pounds of food to help those in need.
The cadets sorted and stacked all kinds of canned good and other food items. It was all loaded up in a truck and sent to America's Second Harvest food bank in Savannah.
The students have been collecting items for weeks. This year they collected more than 12,000 items and they donated a $1,000 check to the charity.
"It's a tradition it always goes to student council we took it and tried to bring it to another level which I think we did from what is displayed here," student council president Matthew Shea said.
The folks from America's Second Harvest say this food will go a long way to feed local needy families.
The BC students actually collected more food this year than the US Postal Service workers, they collected can goods each year on their mail routes.
