SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Start stretching because the clock is ticking on the South's toughest bridge race.

The Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run is only two weeks away. WTOC is a proud sponsor of what's become one of the most popular races in the Southeast.  Some who run are going for the gold, but others come out for a good time and a laugh.

This year, three 3rd ID soldiers stationed in Afghanistan are going to run the race there at the same time it's being run here. Organizers are mailing their numbers to them, so they can really feel like a part of the race.

And some of those organizers at the media day, Wednesday, are convinced this race provides excellent exposure for Savannah.

"It showcases our city; it brings people in from not only people all over the southeast region, but from all over the country. For the first time we ran a big page add in Runner's World and we immediately saw a lot of registrations," said Jim Mercer, vice president and general manager for Enmark Stations Inc.

Around 3,000 people have registered but there's still time to sign up if you want to participate. But you'd better get at it since they'll cap registrations at 4,500. The Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run is Saturday, December 5.

For registration, race details and information contact Fleet Feet Sports of Savannah at 912.355.3527 or visit www.SavannahRiverBridgeRun.com.
