STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - Statesboro stationary shop owner Lisa Lee found a plan online that she and others hope local customers will follow.
They are asking Statesboro shoppers to pick three locally-owned businesses and spend a total of fifty extra dollars each month with them. That small investment could save businesses and tax dollars in each community.
"We're just asking people to think about where their money goes and saving the small business owner, the ones they really like to shop at and hopefully making their community a better place," Lee explained.
She said two thirds of the money spent with locally owned businesses stays in the community, compared to national chains. More details on the project can be found on Facebook under 3/50 Project of Statesboro.
