FORT STEWART, GA (WTOC) - They've been gone for a year, serving our country in Iraq, but now they're home! Tuesday, members of the 178th Military Police Company of the Georgia National Guard were welcomed home by family and friends.
The ceremony took place at Fort Stewart. Families and friends of the soldiers packed the auditorium, cheering as loud as they could. While the soldiers lined up outside the building, the crowd started chanting, “Welcome Home!”
Moments later, the soldiers marched in and were finally reunited with their loved ones. "It's been rough. We got through it. We're happy to be home," said Spc. Corey Wagner with the 178th Military Police Company.
Spc. Wagner wasn't the only one glad to be home. Sgt. Weilbrenner couldn't take his eyes of his daughter. "It's amazing. When I left last time she was barely walking and now she's walking all over the place," said Sgt. Weilbrenner.
Members of the 178th Military Police Company are stationed in Monroe Georgia, but more than thirty of the soldiers that came home are from the Coastal Empire.
