SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A long-time Savannah lawyer and former political candidate is now in the hands of police.

Police say 51-year-old Lawrence Madison was supposed to turn himself in to police Wednesday evening, but never showed up.

Savannah-Chatham police say the local attorney was wanted on three counts of child molestation, two counts of sexual battery and one count of aggravated sexual battery.

"This is a serious sexual offense. It doesn't matter who the person is. This person was supposed to turn themselves in through an arrangement with his attorney at 5pm today," said Sgt. Robert Gavin of Savannah-Chatham police. "To me, that shows he is not willing to turn himself in on his own so we are going to actively look for him. We're going to put him jail. He can either turn himself in or we're going to capture him but either way he's going to jail."

Madison turned himself in at the Chatham County jail late Wednesday night. As far as his political past, he ran for Savannah City Alderman at Large post and lost, 10 years ago.
