SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Garden of Eden restaurant held its ribbon cutting ceremony this afternoon along with the Savannah Development and Renewal Authority (SDRA) at 714 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.
The owners, Pastor Joseph Williams and Connie Williams, started the restaurant in order to bring Savannah an elegant taste of soul food and health foods combined. The Williams' say their mission is to provide quality home cooked fresh food daily at an economical price.
"I remember some of the older stores that were here, so I am excited to be back in the neighborhood that I grew up in. We're just open to whatever happens here and we are expecting change every day," Mrs. Williams said.
The Garden of Eden represents a growing number of new businesses that contribute to the revitalization of the MLK-Montgomery streets corridor. Since 2000, the corridor has experienced over 200 new businesses and created over 800 jobs.
Alderman Van Johnson said of the establishment, "The city of Savannah is working very close with SDRA to make sure we do what we need to do to restore MLK to its West Broad street glory. This business locating here and doing well here is indicative of that revitalization."
