LUDOWICI, GA (WTOC) - Residents in Ludowici are concerned over tax increases.

Residents are fighting a proposed 44% tax hike from city administrators. The reason is the millage rate decreased earlier this year, and the city has to make up the difference because of state budget cuts. It's all in an effort to keep teachers and school administrators in the classroom, but residents aren't so sure.

"Have we looked at other avenues to take from? Because it's just kind of a steep jump," said Eric Kasperian of Ludowici.

"If the increase does not go, or the millage does not increase back to 13.5, then we'll have to look at some more severe cuts that will step into the classroom setting," said superinterdant of Long Co. Schools, Robert Waters.

The board is holding other meetings about the issue on November 9th at 10:00am and 5:00pm at the Long County Board of Education central office located at 468 S. McDonald Street in Ludowici.
