GUYTON, GA (WTOC) - One man is behind bars tonight after shooting another man in the leg. It happened late Saturday night at a house on Hawthorne Street off Highway 30 in Effingham County.

Effingham County Sheriff's deputies say when they got to the house they found Limus Joshua, Jr. of Guyton, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper thigh.

He was transported to Memorial Medical Center where he remains.

A short time later deputies arrested 32 year old Derrick Newberry, of Guyton.

Investigators believe Newberry and Joshua got into a verbal altercation which turned violent.

Newberry has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

He is currently being held in the Effingham County Jail.
