BCSO seeking location of suspect involved in shooting

BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WTOC) - The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is searching for the whereabouts of suspect involved in a shooting incident that happened Thursday evening in the Laurel Village Mobile Home Park.

Around 6:30pm, deputies responded and when they arrived the found a 49-year-old male lying on the ground with gun shot wounds. His wife and neighbors were by his side rendering aid.

The victim's wife reported to deputies that she had been outside talking with some friends when silver Dodge Caravan passed by her home, traveling at a high rate of speed. The wife told deupities about 25 minutes later the van returned and she yelled for them to slow down because there were children playing in the area.

Deputies say the driver, who has been identified by them as 25-year-old Devon Jamel Ward, got out of the car and confronted her. The victim's told deputies she was hit several times over the head before falling on the ground. Her husband tried to rescue her, but Ward pulled out a hangun and shot him.

Ward fled the area in the silver Dodge Caravan.

The victim was taken to Beaufort Memorial and later transfered to the Medical University od South Carolina where he is in critical but stable condition.

The victim's wife was treated on the scene for minor injuries. 

Ward is wanted on charges of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, assault and battery with intent to kill and posession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. His last known address is 41 Franklin Drive in Beaufort.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information about Devon Jamel Ward to call investigator Staff Sgt. J. Hiers at 843.470.3439.
