SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - An Effingham couple is trying to scare up some help for folks in need.

They are transforming their home into a haunted house and this year the scares are for a good cause.

The "Undead Cemetery" is located at home in South Effingham County that will make your head spin.

Keith and Marti Tompkins are putting on the final touches to the cemetery as they transform their home into a haunted house.

"We always had that house when growing up that was decorated for Christmas or Halloween, even though you don't remember their names you always remember that house even when you are an adult. We decided we wanted to be that house," said Keith Tompkins.

For nine years, the Tompkins have been spooking their neighbors on Brittany Lane.

Outside is a plethora of skeletons and eery scenes. Inside a witch greets you and you never know what is lurking around the corner.

And this year the Tompkins are scaring their neighbors into feeding the hungry.

In exchange for a fright, visitors are asked to bring a canned food item that will be donated to the Food Outreach Co-op of Effingham.

"We do it for other people. We do decorations for the kids that are trick or treating and it makes us feel a lot better that we are helping the less fortunate people. That we are taking in all the food to help someone else," said Keith.

So what happens to all the ghosts and goblins after Halloween?

"You have always heard the saying skeletons in the closet, well we literality have skeletons in the closet, " he said.

Hiding away until they need to be dug up again to scare others for a good cause.

The Tompkins collected 50 pounds of food last year and hope to scare up more food this year.

The "Undead Cemetery" is located at 140 Brittany Lane in Guyton and will be open from 7pm until 10pm on Halloween.
