CHATHAM COUNTY, GA(WTOC) - The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on Tuesday that they have been awarded a design-build contract to replace the Diamond Causeway Bridge to Skidaway Island.
United Contractors of Great Falls, SC will receive around $22 million to work on the bridge and the estimated complete time is July 2013.
Just this past Sunday the bridge was stuck in the upright position for almost two hours. Savannah-Chatham Metro police say a mechanic was able to the bridge, but not before traffic backed up for more than a mile in either direction.
Police say a boat was passing underneath the bridge when it got stuck.
