SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - It's something we see all too often, young men resorting to gun fire to solve their problems. Just this weekend we had two shootings in Savannah.
It's to the point now that church leaders in our area are stepping in. "We're trying to stop it. It must stop," said Reverend George Moore with Saint Philip Monumental AME Church.
Moore reached out to other religious leaders in our area, to start figuring out how to reach out to these young men. They talked about programs and ways they could help, but in the end they know it won't be enough. "The challenge is reaching the masses of people that we're having issues with," one pastor said.
Another agreed, "I like this kind of meeting, but the work is on the street."
Ultimately that's what they decided they're going to have to do. Hit the pavement and reach out to these young men one by one.
"We all have issues, and we all have ways of coping with whatever we're going through. We can cope without having to pick up a gun, a knife, or even verbally abuse each other," said Pastor Thurmond Tillman with First African Baptist Church. "It's doable, it's doable and we got it. It's going to be done."
Pastor Tillman says it's just a matter of respecting each other.
Reverend Moore wants more churches involved. We'll let you know what they do next.
