SWAINSBORO, GA (WTOC) - A DUI suspect wanted for running over a deputy has been arrested in Effingham County.

Georgia State Patrol troopers and Emanuel County sheriff's deputies have been searching between Swainsboro and Savannah for Patrick Kersey who they say drove over a deputy at a DUI stop.

Authorities tell WTOC officers with both agencies stopped Kersey Wednesday night in the Walmart parking lot on US Highway 1 in Swainsboro on suspicion of DUI.

Officers said Kersey drove off from the stop and struck Deputy Daniel Moxley. The deputy was taken to a hospital in Augusta with broken bones and other serious injuries.

Kersey was arrested around noon Thursday. We'll have more information on the arrest as it becomes available.
