STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - The debate over healthcare has spread from Washington to town hall meetings around the nation. One Georgia senator predicted the president's plan would not have the votes it needed to pass.
U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson spoke to business leaders Tuesday in Statesboro. He told them that President Obama's plan would add more than $1 trillion to the national deficit. He also feels the plan would hurt small businesses trying to find health care for workers. He stated legislators already had alternative plans that would have support.
"We've got to open up some of the bills already in the senate, some I've co-sponsored which deal with getting affordable accessible health care to Americans without raising the deficit $1.3 trillion," the senator said.
Isakson said the debate will play out in both houses over the next six weeks.
