SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - They're playing apart for the first time in four years. But Justin Smith and Chris Wolfe showed that they're still a pretty good team.

The two former Armstrong Atlantic State University players combined to shoot 63 at Bear's Best Golf Club in Suwanee on Sunday to win the Georgia state qualifier of the ESPN Golf Challenge and advance to the national team finals, which will be played in Las Vegas in October.

"It was great,'' said Smith. "I haven't really seen Chris too much this summer, so it was a little road trip. I picked him up in Macon and we laughed and did all the normal stuff we usually do. Then we got up there and it was a great experience.''

Competing in the televised finals will only add to experience Smith and Wolfe will share in golf this summer.

The former teammates will also be together at next week's United States Amateur Championship in Oklahoma, but in different capacities. Smith will be back in his familiar role of caddieing for good friend Brian Harman, while Wolfe qualified to play in the event.

I have a pretty good feeling about this because Brian has been playing well all summer and his game is there,'' Smith said of Harman, a former teammate of his at Savannah Christian. "He just has to let it happen.''

And while he's toting Harman's bag, Smith will be pulling for Wolfe as well.

"Chris has a great chance,'' said Smith. "He has all the talent in the world. I mean, he won seven times at Armstrong. He'll do well.''

And then, just a few months removed from their careers at Armstrong, Smith and Wolfe can get back to trying to win a national title together.

"I really think we have a legitimate chance to win it all,'' Smith said of the ESPN Golf Challenge finals. "If we play like we can play, I don't think anybody can beat us.''
