COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WTOC/WCSC) - Two teenagers faced a judge Monday on charges they murdered a South Carolina sheriff's deputy.
Jacoby Fields, 18, and 19-year-old Travis Harris, are charged with the murder of Colleton County sheriff's deputy 39-year-old Dennis Compton.
Harris plead not guilty and asked for a jury trial but Fields said nothing in court.
Two of the defense attorneys have been asked to be removed from the case and the judge granted their request. Solicitor Duffie Stone has also officially asked for the death penalty in this case.
Compton was killed in the line of duty while checking on a burglar alarm at a home in Smoaks.
