SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A new traffic light to help ease the number of car crashes is in the works.
Friday morning, Chatham County commissioners approved a resolution to exercise eminent domain for the corner of King George Boulevard and Grove Point Road in hopes of putting in a traffic signal.
It's a series of crashes that people who own businesses off Grove Point Road would like to stop seeing, Kim Thompson owner of Imagine That Too is one of them.
"You can pull out half way and you have to yield and someone else could come out of no where and it's very dangerous," said Thompson. "It really doesn't matter what time of day, it's hard to get out there."
Leon Davenport is the assistant county engineer who says this intersection is in desperate need of a traffic light.
"It is a heavily traveled intersection. We have some apartment complexes using them as well, with traffic in Georgetown area we see a need for a signal. That's what this project is for to put a traffic signal up to help stop conflicts in the area," said Davenport.
A conflict holding up the project is one property owner on the corner where the one of the light posts would be placed.
According to the county, that business owner wants more money than the county is willing to pay, so now that dispute must be settled in court.
Once they go through the legal process, the possibility of putting a traffic light becomes a reality.
"I think it would be beneficial to all of us," said Thompson.
