TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC ) - Friday night is Tybee's annual 4th of July fireworks show.

You may have noticed a ton of traffic heading out to Tybee Island, with thousands of people planning to spend the evening watching the show.

During the day, most just tried to stay cool to last until the big show began.

Some cleaned off and kept cool. For others, the heat isn't a problem.

"It was great perfect weather, not too hot," Becky Murphy told WTOC.

Of course, Murphy and Linda Weeeks found a prime spot.

"We stayed under the dock, in the shade with the baby and it was great," Murphy said.

"If you sit in it constantly I guess it can get a little hot. But we were under the dock, got in the sun a little, went back," Linda Weeks.

While the beach filled up in anticipation of the big fireworks on Tybee Island, some folks, like Joe Payne from Fayetteville, Georgia had to retreat to the ice cream stand to chill out.

"I'll be glad when the sun goes down," Payne said. "I don't like it a bit. It's too hot."

When the clouds are covering the sun, it's not that bad; however, when the sun comes back out, it is almost like an oven.

Ocean Rescue had four emergency situations yesterday, all of them involved heat exhaustion. They recommend drinking plenty of water and stay hydrated.

"Most of our heat victims were simply dehydrated," Lt. Hunter Robinson told WTOC.

Ocean rescue Lt. Hunter Robinson says the heat index is hovering above 100 degrees once again. Life guards are watching out, not only for problems in the water, but people who may be struggling on the beach.

With a big night ahead, they have their work cut out for them.

"Days like this when we have busy days into night, we have a high amount of lost people, especially children. Heat exhaustion. Everybody should be hydrated, especially if drinking alcohol. Make sure you drink water with it. Be aware what your limitations are," Robinson said.

For some, the heat will take some getting used to. Murphy thinks if you head to beach, expect to get hot and don't complain. "I think they are whiners," she said.

As usual, you may have some whining to do if you get a late start heading to Tybee tonight. Traffic on and off Tybee will be bumper to bumper as people leave the fireworks bonanza, which begins at 9:15pm on the Tybee pier.
