BURTON, SC (WTOC) - A little kitten that prompted a daring rescue by firefighters after being trapped under a bridge for almost a week is finally in safe hands.
A 6-week-old kitten somehow ended up under the pylon of the Broad River Bridge in Burton, South Carolina.
Thursday evening, firefighters closed the bridge the traffic to try and rescue the small calico cat, but bad weather forced crews to call of the effort and try again Friday morning. See Firefighter hangs from bridge trying to rescue a kitten.
A live animal trap was placed under the bridge Thursday night and when crews returned, they found the kitten inside.
Using a ladder truck, the Beaufort Fire Department along with the Beaufort Country Sheriff's Office pulled the kitten to safety around 9am Friday.
The kitten, who has now been named Bridgett, was taken the Beaufort County Animal Control where she is getting some much needed food, water and any medical treatment she may need.
Animal control will hold the kitten for 10 days until she's eligible for adoption. One person has already called to adopt her.
