BACON COUNTY, GA (WTOC)--Bacon County is getting the financial help from FEMA, as they continue fixing up almost a hundred roads that were heavily damaged by recent torrential rains.

Some of the roads in Bacon County look like rivers.

Unfortunately, the recent rain has caused this headache one road after the other in Bacon County.

Tennesse Road is washed out, the pipes are sticking out and the road is completely caved in.

This is forcing people to drive miles out of their way to get to and from home.

Bacon County Chairman Roger Boatright says they are working on getting the roads repaired, but it could take time.

"FEMA thinks we were the hardest hit in our area," said Boatright. "Once you get one repaired, one gets washed out and you get two inches of rain in one afternoon and it washes out the roads."

"We can't control nature," said Boatright.

Nearly one hundred roads are in need of being repaired, and can cost up tens of thousands dollars each to fix.

Wallaby Way Road is included in the FEMA grant and set to fix and the people who live on this road are excited, and ready for a change.

Residents like Edith and Allen Johnson say it's not only inconvenient but it's dangerous too.

"It's just a mess," said Edith Johnson. "Even though today the road looks better, the next time it rains, here we go again."

"We had to call EMT's and they had to go to Rockingham Road and go through instead of straight here; it could have been life or death," Edith explained.

They're hoping that by fixing these roads, it will be more direct and less of a danger.

FEMA and Georgia Department of Transportation are assessing the roads throughout Bacon County. It could be weeks before construction starts.
