BACON COUNTY, GA (WTOC) - There's about 485 dirt roads in bacon county and unfortunately the majority of those roads are in pretty bad shape. We went to Wallaby Way road just outside Alma. Where the heavy rain has severely damaged the road. The pipes under the road are exposed where you can see the water moving right through the road, cutting it in half leaving some residents stranded with no way out. There are several roads that look like this all around the county, where the rain water has washed out the roads.

We also got some picture that were sent to us from Bacon County Emergency Management, Tennessee Road where the bridge is out. Now, you can imagine what kind of headache this causing for the people in Bacon County. Now, Roger Boatright is the Chairman for the Bacon County Board of commissioners he says Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue has already declared Bacon County and other surrounding counties in a state of emergency.

"We've been declared on a state level as disaster, governor has submitted to the President Obama and we are just waiting for his signature hopefully receive the funds to rebuild these roads make them better to handle water," said Boatright.

Bacon County emergency management says in the last week they've had over 14 inches of rain, and are in need of around 8 million dollars to fix the roads. Now school buses were able to get through this morning, but it wasn't easy and right now if they get any more rain the county is worried about what's going to happen next to these roads.

The county is hoping to hear an answer if they will get the money or not in the next couple of days.

The Alma Bacon County EMA says Wallaby Way, Tommy Taylor Road, Snapper Road, Sweetgum Road and two areas on Desert Rose Road in Alma, Georgia have been closed.

Bird Dog Road in Bacon County is also closed.
